A Final Environmental Impact Statement (Final EIS) has been issued after considering comments received from the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (Draft EIS) on the Burien 2044 Comprehensive Plan.
The Final EIS responds to comments made on the Draft EIS during a 60-day comment period held from January 10 to March 11, 2024. It also shares the Preferred Alternative developed by the Planning Commission.
The key issues facing decision makers include:
- Creation of a growth concept carried forward in plans and regulations that meets the vision and values of Burien and meets state and regional requirements including allocated targets and policies.
- Identification of the infrastructure that improves mobility and resilience, improve natural drainage with green infrastructure, and add parks and recreation.
- Approval of development regulations that implement the Comprehensive Plan goals and land use plan, resulting in housing for all needs and incomes.
- Approval of Urban Center zoning and a Planned Action Ordinance or Infill Exemption to help incentivize growth while mitigating impacts in the Urban Center.
The Burien City Council is scheduled to take action on the Burien 2044 Comprehensive Plan at their October 28, 2024 meeting.
