The City of Burien invites community members to an open house on the Critical Area Ordinance Update on September 24, 2025 from 3:30 to 5 p.m. in the Burien City Council Chambers (Burien Library Multipurpose Room). Community is invited to stay after for a public hearing to be held at the Planning Commission meeting starting at 5:30 p.m.
The open house event will provide an overview of the Critical Area Ordinance and proposed changes to Burien’s critical area regulations, which are designed to protect wetlands, streams, wildlife habitats, and other sensitive natural features while balancing the city’s growth and development needs. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn how the proposed changes may impact their property, what these changes mean, and the alignment with state law reflecting best available science.
This open house is an opportunity for residents, property owners, and others interested in understanding how these changes may affect future projects and land uses in Burien. City staff will be joined by the consultants who have worked on the update and will be available to answer questions, explain the proposed regulations, and gather community input.
