About Critical Areas Ordinance

The City of Burien is updating the policies and regulations around Critical Areas, to align with state and federal standards. The City will work closely with environmental planners and consultants to review, assess, and determine the best critical area regulations for the ecosystem and environment and the Burien residents.

Specifically, this planning process focuses on environmental protection and updating the Critical Areas Ordinance to align with the most up to date science on how to best protect and mitigate impacts from development to the natural environment.

Results of this planning effort will guide policymaking, plans, and critical area protections across Burien. It’s vital that community voices are heard and play a role in the planning process.
