Forest Steward Program

The City of Burien relies on community volunteers to help with maintaining and stewarding the natural beauty in our parks. The City-sponsored Green Burien Partnership brings together community members and private and public agency partners to restore and care for Burien’s parks and urban forests.

The Burien Forest Steward Program is one way to get involved. A forest steward may do any of the following:

  • Removing weeds
  • Planting native plants
  • Caring for young plants by adding mulch and watering
  • Co-hosting community restoration events with Staff
  • Talking to family, friends, and neighbors about the importance of healthy urban forests
  • Reporting time and work accomplished

Forest Stewards adopt a park and receive training, tools, and materials to do environmental restoration with friends, family, and neighbors.

The City is currently piloting a new program to provide compensation for forest stewards who apply to the paid forest steward program.

Please contact Maya Klem, the Green Burien Partnership Coordinator, with any questions at parksinfo@burienwa.gov or (206) 988-3700.
